Queen's Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch Picnic

The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

Last year on Sunday 5th June the best part of two million people took part. This year it falls on the same weekend as The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 3rd June 2012 and St Michael's Mount joins the nationwide celebration for the first time.

Come along for a special lunch with neighbours and friends and enjoy your food in the beautiful surroundings of St Michael's Mount. Bring your own picnic or grab a bite from the Island Cafe or National Trust Sail Loft Restaurant. As a special treat, we will also be opening our gardens on this day so do come and browse around the flora and fauna of our sub-tropical terraced gardens and enjoy the specatcular views out to Mount's Bay and the Lizard (normal admissions apply).

Between 12midday and 2pm, we will be celebrating the Jubilee with live music and dancing within the village, a free storyteller to entertain the children plus there will be give-aways of specially baked Jubilee Cupcakes as well as traditional scones and clotted cream and jam (limited numbers, so get there fast).

David Ball, the Mount's church organist, will be continuing beyond his usual church service slot to play some rousing celebratory music as part of the Jubilee Celebration.

On Monday 4 June at 10.01pm. the Mount will light a beacon as part of a series being lit UK wide to celebrate the Jubilee - it will stay lit for 45 minutes.
