3. The Library
In the library you’ll find a beautiful Italian gaming table, dating from the 19th century. The table, on which chess, draughts and card games can be played, has always been in the St Aubyn family’s possession.

4 & 5. The Chevy Chase Room

The Chevy Chase room contains two not-to-be-missed artefacts. The first is the plaster frieze that runs around every wall of the room and gave it its name – it shows a complex series of hunting scenes and is a truly remarkable piece of artwork. Now take a look at the windows. The stained glass sections have a curious history – constructed with fragments of painted glass of Dutch and Flemish origin and of varying dates. Take a close look at the craftsmanship – the quality is breathtaking.

6. The Small Blue Room
If you peek through the terrace windows into the Small Blue Drawing Room, you’ll see a collection of paintings, both portrait and landscape, by John Opie, a painter from St Agnes on the north Cornish coast. Opie was known as ‘The Cornish Wonder’, such was his status as an exceptional artist. He left Cornwall to make his fortune in London; many of his works can now be seen in the National Portrait Gallery.
