Sailing Championships in Mount's Bay

01 August 2019

Attracting sailors from far and wide, Mount’s Bay and the surrounding coastline offers a veritable playground for salt-washed professionals and those still learning the ropes.

A safe place to learn and glide atop enchanting Cornish waters, sailors are often accompanied by swooping seabirds and bow-riding porpoise and dolphins.

Thoroughly addictive, sailing is a great family-friend activity in Cornwall. Whether you are ready to place all hands-on-deck or cheer on from the shore, if you have salt-water running in your veins there is one event that needs to be in your social calendar this year. Hosted by Mounts Bay Sailing Club, the 2019 Osprey National Sailing Championships is a must for all sailors, yachty-types and lovers of the sea.

A superb multi-day event, the 2019 Osprey National Championships is scheduled to see 10 races take place between Sunday 4th and Wednesday 7th August 2019, starting with two races on the Sunday. Currently listing 35 boats ready to set sail and chase the wind, it is sure to be a gripping spectacle as entrants compete to claim the coveted first-place title.

The 10th time the club has hosted the championships, it will certainly be an event to remember. If you would like to take part yourself, the set entry fee includes a full racing programme with fun, challenging courses in some of the best conditions and most scenic surrounds in the country.

As well as the racing itself, there will also be delicious evening meals provided and a full social programme, including a Commodore’s welcome and a drinks reception right here at St Michael’s Mount. Hosting a raffle, live music, lots of food and drink and even putting on a themed heroes and villains party at the sailing club, it will be a great way to let your hair down and socialise with like-minded crew!

Before you pick up anchor and make way again, make sure you seize the chance to explore our magical island castle and wander around the mesmerizingly beautiful Mounts Bay. Home to numerous beautiful beaches, rolling coastal paths and traditional pubs a-plenty, there will be more than enough to keep your spirits high post-event.
