Take home a piece of the island with you, with a gift from one of our two shops on the island. Whether it’s a present for a neighbour who is taking care of the cat while you are away, a gift for a special occasion, or a treat for yourself, visit the Island Shop or the Courtyard Shop for unique crafted objects, accessories, Cornish produce and more.
Once housing the Mount’s barges, the Island Shop has now been transformed into a gift shop boasting a variety of products. If you are searching for melt in your mouth Cornish fudge, nautical lifestyle gifts reflecting our location, a swashbuckling gift for the little one, or Marazion made mead, to name a few, you have come to the right place.
Over the 2017/2018 winter, the Island Shop has received a new lease of life, with an extension and renovation, as well as the exciting addition of Cornish clothing company Seasalt joining the array of wonderful gifts.
You will also find two of our bespoke ranges in the Island Shop. The St Michael’s Mount Collection, consisting of a variety of homeware, food goods, and stationary, with a detailed line drawing of the island that captures the ancient cobbled causeway, the activity of the village and harbour, as well as the castle which crowns the summit.
Keeping with a nautical theme, suitable to our location, the vibrant colours and creatures of the sea have been incorporated into The Marine Range. Illustrated by local artist, Jack Drewitt, this exclusive range takes inspiration from the sea life that is often spotted in the rockpools around St Michael’s Mount and as well as the Cornish coast. These designs include the distinctively striped mackerel, the characteristic gurnard, and the iconic brown crab.
Located in the old blacksmith’s forge, the Courtyard Shop, located next to the Ticket Office, hosts a large range of local books, artisan gifts designed by Cornish artists, handmade jewellery, preserves made on the Mount, and two of our bespoke ranges, including the Illustrated Garden and 1793 Collection.
Designed locally, the Illustrated Garden range draws inspiration from the sub-tropical garden on the island. With a large variety of succulents, flowers and plants, the naturally occurring geometric patterns and eye-catching colours lent themselves well to this range. Alongside beautifully bright stationary and homeware, the introduction of an organic natural skincare range partnering with local business, Bloom Remedies, joined the range.
Taking inspiration from a piece designed by Swansea Pottery, the 1793 Collection pulls elements of the imagery of St Michael’s Mount depicted on this mug bought at auction by Lord and Lady St Levan. Using the interpretation of the island from the Swansea Pottery mug, local designers used particular details to accentuate. The original mug from which the designs were inspired by can be found in the castle’s Museum Room.
